Top 5 Worst Arcs In One Piece Ranked

One Piece is one of the most popular manga series of all time. It has a massive fan base all around the world due to its status as the best-selling Manga of all time. It has spun 1001 chapters at the time of writing this and hasn’t deteriorated in quality.

One Piece has several great arcs and there aren’t a lot of bad arcs. Even the worst arcs within One Piece are actually pretty good overall compared to other series. It is a daunting task to name the worst 5 arcs in One Piece.

5. Little Garden

Episodes: 70 to 77

Chapters: 115 to 129

The first time we see giants is in the Little Garden Arc. We get to see how the giants, a warrior race, live their lives. The fight scenes between Strawhats and Baroque Works agents (Mr.3, Mr.5, Miss Valentine, Miss Goldenweek) are well-done.

Overall it is a pretty decent arc but the antagonists were really not that great compared to the standard of One Piece. Also, there aren’t that many great moments in this arc.

Notable Moments:

  • Sanji phones Crocodile.

4. Whiskey Peak

Episodes: 64 to 67

Chapters: 106 to 114

Whisky Peak arc focuses on the events in Whiskey Peak where Straw Hats encounter Baroque works’ agents. Zoro kills 100 bounty hunters on his own, and Luffy fights Zoro for the first and only time in his life. The princess of Alabasta is discovered to be Vivi. In this arc, Crocodile and Baroque Works are also revealed.

Luffy fighting Zoro didn’t make sense at all. This is one of the biggest character inconsistencies in the series so far. Also, Igaram was supposedly bombed to death only to appear later in Alabasta.

Notable Moments:

  • Luffy vs Zoro.
  • Zoro vs Bounty Hunters.
  • Reveal of Crocodile and Baroque Works.

3. Orange Town

Episodes: 4 to 8

Chapters: 8 to 21

This arc focused on the encounter with Buggy. For the first time, we see Luffy, Zoro, and Nami together. Buggy was cool, and his relationship with Shanks gave a layer of intrigue, but his crew was dull and uninteresting. The fight with Buggy was entertaining because it was the first time we’d seen two devil fruit users go at it.

Overall, I think compared to the later arcs, everything in this arc seems average in comparison. Even Buggy who is a fan favorite in the later arcs wasn’t a great antagonist. But still, I would consider this arc being on the good side of the spectrum.

Notable Moments:

  • Zoro’s and Luffy’s fight.
  • Chouchou’s Story.

2. Syrup Village

Episodes: 9 to 18

Chapters: 22 to 41

The start of One Piece is considered to be slow and the Syrup Village arc is the biggest culprit of it. The majority of One Piece arcs feature either plot progression with info dumps or incredible action scenes. However, the Syrup Village arc fails in each of them. It lasted ten episodes and moved at an excruciatingly slow pace with little discernible plot progression.

For comparison, the Reverie, Jaya, and Loguetown arcs all lasted less than ten episodes and had a significant impact on the plot. Another major issue is having an inept antagonist in Kuro and his subordinates.

Notable Moments:

  • Getting Go Merry and recruiting Usopp.

1. Long Ring Long Land

Episodes: 207 to 219

Chapters: 303 to 321

This arc focuses on a contest between the Straw Hat Pirates and the Foxy Pirates, called the “Davy Back Fight”. The arc is decent and amusing on its own. Davy Back Fight is an intriguing concept that demonstrated that the pirate culture is not all about sheer strength. We already had Skypiea, who went out on a tangent from the main tale, and the fact that this happened after Skypiea didn’t help matters.

This arc doesn’t have as much impact on the story as much as other arcs. Maybe when the Davy Back fight is shown again in the series, this arc might become better. But currently most would agree that this is the worst arc in One Piece.

Notable Moments:

  • Luffy’s Afro.
  • Meeting of Aokiji
