Top 15 Best Cast In Anime
On number 20, we have a 25-year-old franchise, Pokémon. It is an anime focused on a world where humans live together with animal-like creatures called Pokémon. These Pokémon have different types different shapes and different spells. Humans can capture these creatures and can use them to fight, do household chores, and much more.
The anime revolves around the main protagonist Ash who plan’s to conquer the world. Along his journey, he made numerous friends like Brook, Misty, May, Dawn, Professor Oak, Goh, and villains like Team Rocket, Cyrus, and many more. On top of that there are more than 900+ Pokémon and many are yet to be discovered.
19. Dragon Ball
The story revolves around a Saiyan child who was sent to earth to destroy the planet. But he the innocent child was adopted and trained by Master Roshi, later he forgets about the initial plan and developed a very strong bond with the earth and fights to save it from the alien’s invasion.
The long-run series has many important characters, the main protagonist Goku’s character development along with his son Gohan, and his rival Vegeta is what fans like the most. Also, it has the most badass villains in the history of anime making main characters exceed their limits, There are many important characters who have played their part in different arcs of the stories but the reason this is not ranked high is that anime fails to establish the emotional bond as the dead characters can be revived again and again this takes away the importance of their sacrifice.
18. My Hero Academia
My Hero Academia is one of the most popular modern-day anime series. The story takes place in a world of heroes and villains having superpowers called “Quirks“. It has a well-rounded cast, especially the villains and the adult characters. The main cast, the students, aren’t the greatest characters but villains and side characters carry the show.
Twice is one of my favorite villains of all time while characters like Shigaraki and Endeavor are also really great characters.
17. Demon Slayer
The story revolves around Tanjiro Kamado whose whole family was slaughtered by a demon with the only survivor being his sister, who then became a demon herself. Tanjiro joined the Demon Slayer Corps in order to keep her sister safe and find her a cure.
The anime is full of exciting characters and their backstories. We have our main protagonist Tanjiro, his sister Nezuko, two of his fellow Demon Slayers Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira, 9 current Hashira, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and villains like Muzan and his Twelve Kizuki. The main cast of Zenitsu and Inosuke are really enjoyable to watch.
16. Black Clover
The story of Black clover revolves around a boy who in the world “where magic is everything” cannot use magic. This magic-less boy one day finds an anti-magic grimoire and later on decides to become wizard king.
In this anime we have many cool characters, there are four kingdoms based on “cards” Clover, Spade, Heart, and Diamond, and each kingdom is full of exciting and powerful mages. Some of the main characters that everyone loves are Asta, Yuno, Yami, Magna, Luck, Wizard king, Noelle Silva, and many more. It has great villains too ranging from simple robbers to evil elves to demons themselves.
Black Clover isn’t anything unique in storytelling but it does one thing really well. Almost every character has their focus and proper development. It is not an anime that only focuses on the protagonists. Villains are a weak point for Black Clover.
15. Jujutsu Kaisen
The story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers in order to kill a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. Here at Jujutsu school, they learn how to kill curse spirits. And how to use their cursed energy for good.
In the cast, we have many great characters, the main protagonist Yuji Itadori, and his fellow classmates Megumi and Nobara. But the side characters like Gojo, Nanami, Maki, Okkutsu, etc steal the show. Their teacher and most powerful character in the series is Satoru Gojo. And villains like Kenjaku, Suguru Geto, Toji Fushiguro, Mahito, and other Cursed spirits are some of the better antagonist groups in the modern Shonen.
14. Attack On Titan
Attack on Titan revolves around the inhabitants of paradise island who are in constant danger of being attacked by titans. Anime has a complex story that touches on the morality of humanity where it is tough to classify people as heroes and villains.
Attack on Titan has a great cast, including our main protagonist Eren Yeager and his friends Mikasa and Armin. Apart from these three, we have fan-favorite captain Levi and Commander Erwin Smith. In this anime, we have four Military regiments and nine intelligent titans, the Nobility of paradise island, the Eldia family, and the Marleyan people.
13. One Punch Man
One Punch Man may be just a gag manga but the characters are some of the most enjoyable you will see in Anime. Saitama is a unique take on the Shonen protagonist trope and is easily one of the funniest Main characters ever written in Anime.
Side characters are also unique and interesting in their own right. Garou is also one of the best villains in Anime.
The series follows Aladdin who is a Magi and his adventures in search of his true self. He is accompanied by a djinn called Ugo, who is his friend. Later he befriends Alibaba and a great journey starts. Magi is a story about what makes a good king. It handles the tough subjects of politics, country, kingship, etc in a great way.
Considering the complicated intricacies of the politics involved, the characters had to be good to make them compelling. Sindbad is my favorite character in the series and he is one of the best characters in Anime.
11. Tokyo Ghoul
Tokyo Ghoul is one of the best Manga series and the characters are one of the main reasons for it. Ken Kaneki is one of the best protagonists and the villains are also great in the series. Aogiri tree as a villain group was outstanding. Female characters are also really great in the series.
10. Fullmetal Alchemist
Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the best Shonen series ever made. All the characters are really good. It is one of the series where many characters are consistently good even though they might lack characters in the greatest list shouts.
Female characters in FMAB are one of the better ones in Shonen. They all have a unique story and don’t exist for the sake of existing.
Haikyuu, written by Furudate tells the story of Hinata and his journey as an aspiring Volleyball player. Haikyuu might seem childish but the characters are one of the best I have seen. The characters are very realistic for a sports anime and each of them is really unique.
Most characters have their own character arcs and Hinata’s journey is one of the most honest takes on the underdog trope in Anime.
Naruto is a story that revolves around an orphan whose parents sacrifice their lives to save the village but still, the whole village sees him as a monster to gain everyone’s attention and achieve everyone’s affection he decides to become Hokage (Leader) of the village.
Naruto has one of the best casts in anime with incredible side characters and villains. Villains have good motivations and they are unique too. Pain is one of the best Anime villains ever and Akatuski is the best villain faction ever. Naruto is also a solid protagonist and side characters such as Sasuke, Itachi, Kakashi, Guy, etc all make the series a great one. Unfortunately, the female cast is weak in the series and hence it doesn’t rank higher.
7. Vinland Saga
Vinland Saga, written by Makoto Yukimura, tells the story of Thorfinn and his journey. Thorfinn has one of the greatest character development I have seen in Manga. Askeladd is also one of the best Antagonists in Manga. All the side characters are also greatly written making it one of the best cast in Manga.
Berserk, written by Kentaro Miura, tells the story of Guts and his journey of going against fate itself. Guts can be argued to be the greatest protagonist ever and also Griffith the greatest antagonist. Just having both of them gave Berserk a place in the Top 10.
The remaining side characters are also great. My only issue is that the remaining characters aren’t that fun to follow compared to other series on this list.
Monster, written by Urasawa, tells the story of Tenma, a surgeon living in Germany who saves a young boy who turns out to be a serial killer.
Johan Liebert is the best Manga villain of all time. The series deserves a place just because of him. Tenma is also a great Main character though gets overshadowed by Johan. Side characters are also really great and Grimmer is one of my favorite side characters ever. Overall, Monster definitely has one of the best cast in Anime.
4. Hunter X Hunter
The story focuses on a young boy named Gon Freecss, who discovers that his father, who he was told had left him at a young age, is actually a world-renowned Hunter. It is among the best anime in terms of the cast due to following reasons.
The characters are well made and it’s fun to see what antics Gon and Killua get up to. There is character development and changes. The rich assortment of characters populating its world is in constant contact, whether direct or indirect. These characters’ collaborations and conflicts give rise to a dynamic storyline.
Hunter x Hunter repeatedly shifts the spotlight from Gon and Killua, instead of focusing on relatively minor characters. Antagonists are some of the best in the medium. Hisoka, Mereum, Pariston, Chrollo, and Tserriednich are all great villains. At the same time, Phantom Troupe is one of the best Anime villain groups.
Gintama is the story about Gintoki, who does nothing really. It has Gintoki, Kagura, and Shinpachi as the leading main characters. The story isn’t complicated and is pretty straightforward but the cast is one of the best in Anime.
Gintoki is one of the best protagonists ever and is perfect for the story Gintama tries to tell. Kagura is also one of the best female leads ever. The female cast in Gintama in general is really great. Side characters such as Madao, Hijikata, Kondo, etc are also distinctive and have a story of their own. Villains also stand out though not the greatest the medium has provided. The vast cast and each having a unique personality and story of their own make Gintama rank this high.
Kingdom is one of the best Manga series of all time. The story is about Ei Sei who intends to unify all the states of China and Hi Shin who aims to become a great general. The series has great worldbuilding and complicated political themes, but the characters are the best part of it.
Shin is a good main character while other leading characters such as Ei Sei, Kyokai, Ten, Mouten, etc are also really good. Kanki is one of the greatest side characters I have enjoyed reading. While villains such as Riboku, and Ryufoi are some of the best in Manga. Characters are underrated in general since Kingdom isn’t that famous compared to other series.
1. One Piece
The story revolves around Luffy, a young boy who is inspired by a pirate and wants to become the Pirate King, a feat that seems unachievable. He gathers a pirate group and goes on an adventure to find the greatest Treasure, One Piece.
The show has one of the best storylines and the fact that it has more than 1000 episodes and manga chapters show how much attention to detail there is. Lore, worldbuilding, mysteries, politics, etc are some of the best things in One Piece but for me, the characters are the best thing about the series. Strawhats are the most enjoyable main character group in all of anime. Luffy in fact ranked 1st in our list of best Manga protagonists of all time.
All the characters are unique and given real importance. Villains are also well developed and unique. Marines and Blackbeard pirates are some of the greatest antagonist factions in Anime. Doflamingo and Blackbeard ranked in our list of greatest antagonists ever. Side characters such as Law, Whitebeard, Oden, Roger, Corazon, etc are also well written. It is without a doubt that One Piece has the greatest cast in Anime or Manga.
