Haikyuu: Dream Team from Myagi Prefecture.

Instead of choosing a dream team of whole Haikyuu high school I decided to choose a Myagi All stars team. Our Haikyuu dream team will have 12 players with 6 being substitutes. It is impossible to chose a unbiased dream team of whole Haikyuu high school world since we don’t even see all the strong teams in action. Article is based on anime only and won’t consider the manga events.

Team will be two setters, four outside hitters, two opposites, two middle blockers and one libero.

SETTERS

1.Toru Oikawa – Aobajoshai

Oikawa is the third-year student at Aobajohsai High, serving as the captain and the setter for the school’s volleyball team. At the time of completion of the Spring tournament, he was considered the best setter in the prefecture by everyone. He had the ability to adjust any type of spikers and bring out the best from anyone.

Though Kageyama improved significantly by the end of Spring tournament, he still didn’t come near the level of Oikawa. Also Oikawa’s serves were the best in the prefecture making him our main setter of our dream team.

2. Kageyama Tobio (Sub) – Karasuno

Coming from the bench for our dream team will be Karasuno’s genius setter. Undoubtedly Tobio was the most talented setter in the whole Haikyuu High school world who could be only rivaled by Atsumou Miya. He still had a long way to go especially on his mental state as he quite often ended up questioning himself.

Kageyama’s most prominent and praised skill was his ability to accurately determine a ball’s trajectory and tossing it to the exact point. Combined with the fact that he could set from any angle at incredible speeds, this made his sets almost impossible for most of his opponents to predict and counter. His pinpoint accuracy was a necessary component in Kageyama and Hinata’s infamous “Freak-Quick” sets.

Honorable Mentions: Shirabu(Shiratorizawa)

OUTSIDE HITTERS

3. Hajime Iwaizumi – Aobajoshai

Playing as a outside hitter for our dream team will be Aobajoshai’s ace Iwaizumi. He was a dependable player with faith in his own abilities, which lead Oikawa setting to Iwaizumi whenever he felt that he was in a pinch. Along with his powerful spikes, he had a very good defensive ability which was shown through his solid receives.

4. Asahi Azumane – Karasuno

Playing as the other Outside hitter in our dream team will be our very own Karasuno’s ace. Asahi is the most powerful attacker in Karasuno. He was known for a strong spike that can blast past most defenders and was also capable of doing back attacks. He also had pretty decent jump serves that got better as the year progressed.

5.Tsutomu Goshiki (Sub) – Shiratorizawa

First Outside hitter to be on the bench for our dream team is Goshiki. He was recognized as the upcoming ace after Ushijima and was the only first year regular on the powerhouse Shiratorizawa during the Spring tournament, as such, he is a capable all-around player. He was very competent on offense with sharp angle and line shots in his arsenal. Goshiki was also shown to be decent in blocks and receives and capable of jump serves.

6. Takeru Nakashima (Sub) – Wakatani

Second outside hitter to be on the bench in our dream team will he Wakatani’s ace and captain Takeru Nakashima. Just like Hinata, Takeru admired the “Little Giant” as such his play resembled that of the Little Giant.

He used to hit the blockers’ hand at an angle by changing the direction of his spikes thus making the ball ricochet off the court. Wakunan are known for their defensive capability and Takeru being their captain was also very strong in defense.

Honorable Mentions: Tanaka(Karasuno), Reon Ohira(Shiratorizawa)

MIDDLE BLOCKERS

7. Takanobu Aone – Date Tech

Our first Middle blocker in our dream team will be Takanobu Aone from Date Tech. Aone was the undisputed backbone of Date Tech’s famous “Iron Wall” defense. He was an experienced read blocker whose strong points include his sturdy physique, a calm mindset, and the tenacity to stop his opponents’ attacks.

Aone had a reputation as a formidable read blocker. He exceled at reading the path of the toss and deducing where the ball will go to put up a block. As a result, he didn’t easily fall for decoys. He had the ability to quickly correct himself when he misread the attacks and still put up a decent block.

8. Kei Tsukishima – Karasuno

Second middle blocker on our dream team will be Kei Tsukishima from Karasuno. Tsukishima was blocking cornerstone of the team and was often trusted to stop opponents’ powerful spikes.

Tsukishima wasn’t the sort of player who moved on instinct and trusted only the information presented to him. He was quick to process all the players’ information and deduced where the toss will go to put up a strong block and this ability made Tsukishima an exceptional read blocker.

9. Hinata Shoyo (Sub) – Karasuno

Our Substitute middle blocker in our dream team will be our series protagonist Hinata Shoyo. Hinata was known as the fastest player on his team and had incredible reflexes and mobility and also had seemingly unlimited stamina.

Despite being very short he had an amazing vertical jump which enabled him to play as middle blocker. His other skills in receiving, serving and game sense aren’t on the high level mainly due to lack of proper volleyball before High school. Hinata was the only one capable of playing freak quick with Kageyama.

Honorable Mentions – Satori(Shiratorizawa), Kindaichi(Aobajoshai)

OPPOSITES

10. Wakatoshi Ushijima – Shiratorizawa

Playing as the opposite in our dream team will be Shiratorizawa’s Wakatoshi Ushijima. Ushijima was the only modern type outside hitter in Myagi prefecture whereas all others were more of an allrounder type. By his third year, he was already a member of Japan’s Under 19 team.

Ushijima was the best player in Myagi prefecture and was one of the top three aces in whole of Japan’s High school circle. Ushijima had excellent stamina and was in top physical condition to the point his teammates couldn’t keep up with him jogging routines. Being left handed, his spikes’ rotation were different and were hard to pick up.

11. Daichi Sawamura (Sub) – Karasuno

Other opposite for our dream team will be Karasuno’s captain Daichi and he will play the traditional allrounder role. His reading of the game was secondary to none and his idea of making Hinata play as a middle blocker was an illustration of that. Daichi had outstanding receiving skills and often tasked with handling difficult serves. He was also capable of back attacks.

Honorable Mentions: Akira Kunimi (Aobajoshai)

LIBERO

12. Yu Nishinoya – Karasuno

Libero for our dream team will be Karasuno’s Guardian deity Yu Nishinoya. Nishinoya’s skills in defense are said to be unparalleled. The level of proficiency he demonstrated in his position as a libero made Daichi refer to him as a “guardian deity”, and his skills were also acknowledged by Nekoma’s libero, Yaku.

He had supremely fast reflexes, swift feet, and flexible arms and could receive volleys that most teams would usually deem impossible, and keep the ball in play and connected.
